Farewell to a Supercars Legend: Shane van Gisbergen's Last Race

This weekend, the Supercars world said goodbye to one of its most iconic figures, Shane van Gisbergen (SVG). The three-time series champion competed in his final Supercars race at the Adelaide 500, marking the end of an era for SVG.

Unfortunately, Van Gisbergen’s final races didn't quite unfold like the fairytale ending everyone had envisioned. On Saturday during the opening lap, he collided with Will Brown’s already crashed car at Turn 4, followed by braking issues on Sunday which left him unable to finish the race.

Despite these setbacks, Van Gisbergen's impact on Supercars is undeniable. SVG has been a driving force in Supercars for over a decade, winning 3 championships, 60 races, and over 150 podiums.

"Now it’s time for a new challenge," Van Gisbergen said of his departure from Supercars.

"I had a send-off party with my mates last week and we had our derby race, and I knew it would be my last time in New Zealand for a while."

Van Gisbergen's next chapter will take him to the United States, where he will compete in the NASCAR Cup Series. Signed with Trackhouse Racing, he is set to drive in a combination of races in NASCAR's three national series in 2024.

I'm proud of what I have achieved here in Australia but I'm excited by this new chapter in my career and the opportunities that it brings,” Van Gisbergen said.

Van Gisbergen's departure is a significant loss for Supercars, but he leaves behind a legacy that will be difficult to match. He is a true legend of the sport, and he will be sorely missed here down under.

Quad Lock is very excited to continue supporting Shane in his next Chapter with NASCAR, let’s see what 2024 brings!
