Australia’s rising star Oscar Piastri took to the track for the first time this week as an official McLaren Formula 1 driver at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Circuit.
Oscar joined new teammate Lando Norris in the annual post-season test at Yas Marina Circuit two days after the end-of-season test in Abu Dhabi.
“We did a lot of laps and experimented a lot, which is exactly what today is all about,” Oscar said
Oscar completed 123 laps in the latest McLaren machinery, the MCL36, Oscar wound up 14th out of 24 drivers with a 1:26:340s, collecting useful data for the team in great preparation for the upcoming 2023 season.
“A good first day with McLaren, I think we learnt a lot. It was great to finally join up with the team, and thanks to them for a good day of running. We did a lot of laps and experimented a lot which is exactly what today is all about. I’ve got a good idea where to improve for next year. I really enjoyed it, it’s nice to be back out on track finally and experience the 2022 cars. I’m looking forward to next year now, I’ll be in the factory next week to meet the whole team, after that I’ll take a short break before getting back to work with McLaren to prepare for next year.”
Just when we thought we couldn’t get any more excited for Oscar’s very first day as an official F1 McLaren driver, seeing Quad Lock represented on his helmet took our excitement to a new level.
We are thrilled to support Oscar as one of our global Quad Lock ambassadors throughout his journey in the F1 and cannot wait to see what is lined up ahead for the upcoming 2023 season.
