Oscar Piastri: A Championship Season, Life at McLaren & What Comes Next

Fresh home from a season that had all of us on the edge of our seats, Oscar stopped by Quad Lock's Melbourne office for the first time.

We talked championships, teammates, life in the spotlight, and what's coming in 2026.

How Oscar Piastri reflects on his 2025 F1 season

Only Oscar could finish third in the Formula 1 World Championship and describe himself as a little disappointed. He spent most of 2025 as a genuine title contender.

"To be a little bit disappointed with finishing third is a pretty good place to be in." — Oscar Piastri

What he is proud of is the step he took. From 2024 to 2025 was, by his own words, bigger than most people expected, including himself. For the first time in his F1 career, he walked into every single race weekend thinking he could win it. Not hoping. Thinking. That's a different headspace entirely, and he knows it.

Now he's looking at how to do it again in 2026. Same step, same mentality, just a completely new car to figure out.

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris: driving styles and team dynamics at McLaren

The dynamic between Oscar and his McLaren teammate Lando Norris is one of the most talked-about topics in Formula 1, and Oscar gave a pretty candid take on it. Both drivers want similar things from the car, but they get there differently. Oscar is more naturally quick through medium and high-speed corners. Lando tends to find more time in the slower stuff. That contrast has actually been useful for both of them as they learn from each other's strengths.

"I can fast-track my learning of how to make myself quicker in the low-speed corners. He can learn off me in the quicker stuff." — Oscar Piastri

Being home in Melbourne

For all the recognition that comes with being one of the faces of Formula 1, Oscar stays pretty grounded about what this trip home is actually about: three weeks with his family, a Queensland trip planned for the new year, and genuinely switching off before 2026 begins.

"It's part of being on the world stage. And it's a good problem to have." — Oscar Piastri

Watch the full Oscar Piastri interview above. He also covers mental performance in Formula 1, go-karting with MotoGP star Pedro Acosta, his favourite F1 circuit, and the corners where even he holds his breath.
